About

MARIE YAGAMI is a performance director and designer with a life-long passion for human movement, performance, and all forms of artistic expression. She collaborates frequently on projects and pride herself on my ability to both lead, assemble, and to participate in the production that is meaningful and relatable to the audience.

Marie is disciplined and has gained a broad range of skills working internationally for over 10 years. She now has been working in Japan, the USA, Spain and the UK in a broad range of multi-disciplinary creative projects. Her work stems from a formal education in both fashion and costume design and has grown, in recent years, to include writing, directing, choreography, video-mapping and sound and visual editing - particularly for theatre, dance & movement, television and musical-theatre.

She left home, Hyogo in Japan, aged 18, to study Fashion Design, and gained a BA from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Since then she has established a successful career and recently, decided to deepen her directing skills, by completing a MA in Performance Design & Practice at Central St. Martins in the UK. Marie grew up in a yoga Ashram in Gifu Japan. Through a life time study of yoga and dance, she also has a deep understanding of the human form and movement and still practice regularly.

Most recently Marie has written, cast and directed Little Girl Inside Me, a hopeful, and highly personal, exploration of trauma and recovery, derived from her experiences as a 10 year-old child in the Kobe Earthquake of 1995, using, dance, voice, video-mapping, music, sound and archive material.
